"Albert Murray calls the African American public dance a ritual of purification, affirmation and celebration. It helps drive the blues away and provides rich opportunities to symbolically challenge societal hierarchies by offering powers and freedoms that are impossible in ordinary life. At a dance, anyone with the right moves may become king or queen of the floor."

VARIETY
We want to honour blues music and show its full spectrum of styles. Musicians, DJs and teachers are encouraged to play a broad range from Piedmont, to Chicago, to Kansas City and everything in between!

NO INTERRUPTIONS
It's all about the social dancing!  No competitions, no shows, just non-stop social dancing in the evenings so you can throw down your best moves and really get in the groove. We love partying and hope you will join us!

SAFE SPACE
Covid-19 has changed how events have to run. We will be sticking to all government guidance, and will keep you updated as these guidelines change.
For more information please read our Covid protocol.

Blues dance is an African American dance form. As dancers not from this culture, we are committed to honouring the roots of the dance through this event. We organise this event with care and deep respect for the rich history and heritage of the music and dance, aiming to educate about and celebrate the dance, the music and the people who created it.
